Haiku Winners!

All your haikus were great.  I loved reading them.  Here are my favorites, and the winners!  I was looking for happy themes, personality, and most of all imagery.

Two runners-up:

By Caleb:

Sledding down steep hills
I wish I could play longer
But Dad says, “SHOVEL!”

I enjoyed the personality that shows through in this one — a kid’s perspective for sure!  And it made me chuckle.

By Rita:

Pre dawn visitors
criss crossing fresh fallen snow
watching warily

This one got extra points for alliteration.  I like how Rita doesn’t come out and say who or what the pre-dawn visitors are.

And the grand prize winner:

By Thelma:

Snowy diamonds gleam
At dawn, as fierce fire rises.
Beauty all divine.

Oh, the imagery here is just perfect!  Lovely.

As I mentioned, I didn’t have prizes all picked out before I came up with the contest idea.  This made me realize that perhaps I should buy neat stuff when I see it so that I have prizes to give out when I want to have a contest, because all of a sudden I had to come up with prizes!  But I got a chance to get out this weekend, and since I love Burt’s Bees stuff, everyone is getting something from Burt’s Bees: soap, lotion, lip balm, and other stuff.

I’ll be contacting you three to get addresses.  Congratulations, and again, thanks to all of you who submitted!  I had a blast!

Wow – all three are great, but that last one is really beautiful. Good job everyone! I missed the competition, but I’ll be watching for the next one.
