The payment on the Discover card was due today. Chef has been wanting to pay it for at least a week. It would be the last payment on this card. The trouble, though, is that clients haven’t been paying him as quickly as he’d like.
That’s the trouble with owning a business. When you work for someone else, you can usually count on regular paychecks. But when you work for yourself, there’s no guarantee that your clients will pay quickly.
I got paid from my doctors’ office job today. So we got cash out of the bank, went to Chef’s shop for a while to work, and then went to the store to buy groceries and other supplies (like furnace filters, which is something I don’t think about until it’s long past time to change them.) We swung back home again to put the groceries away (we wanted our milk to still be milk at the end of the day, not cottage cheese), and found in the mailbox a check from a client. Hooray!
We zoomed back to the bank, deposited the check, and then drove to the shop again where Chef made the transaction.
The Discover debt is now DUMPED!
Debt status: we have now paid off over half of our consumer debt. We started in June 2009 and hope to be finished by the end of October 2011. (This does not include our mortgage.)
